PART OF A GLOBAL MOVEMENT
Rooted in Malawi.
Looking beyond borders.
LEAD SEA is part of the global Leadership for Environment and Development network, founded in 1991 ahead of the 1992 Earth Summit.
Based in Zomba, we nurture the leadership needed to meet today’s environmental and development challenges — bringing together people and ideas across Southern and Eastern Africa.
Our regional mandate spans Malawi, Zambia, Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.
OUR MISSION
Resilient ecosystems.
Resilient communities.
We strengthen leadership and the ability of communities and ecosystems to respond to natural and human-induced shocks, in Malawi and beyond.
OUR VISION
Leadership that shapes
a sustainable future.
We work to be a leading centre for leadership in environmental and natural resource management, supporting lasting sustainable development.
OUR JOURNEY
From a global vision
to local action.
A shared responsibility
The 1987 Brundtland report, Our Common Future, helped place sustainable development on the global agenda. LEAD grew from the momentum that led to the Rio Earth Summit and Agenda 21.
Today, LEAD SEA connects that global perspective with the priorities of local communities. Our affiliations include the NGO Regulatory Authority, the Council for Non-Governmental Organizations in Malawi and the Civil Society Network on Climate Change.
