A collective commitment to stewardship
LEAD helped convene Malawi’s inaugural National Chiefs Forum, bringing together 550 participants from government, civil society and traditional leadership.
Senior Chiefs and Traditional Authorities represented all 28 districts. Their shared priority was to strengthen natural resource management and support a transition towards sustainable agriculture.
From dialogue to a Call to Action
The gathering culminated in a Call to Action signed by traditional leaders and President Lazarus Chakwera on behalf of the government at the time. It set out a shared commitment to protect and manage Malawi’s natural wealth for future generations.
What the forum made possible
- Closer collaboration between government, civil society and traditional leadership.
- A shared commitment to the responsible management of natural resources.
- Cooperation between institutions on environmental stewardship.
- Stronger support for sustainable agriculture and long-term food security.
